PFWM SS18 STREET STYLE

By Matt Glazebrook, June 27, 2017

Forget the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Montmartre — for a few days in June, Paris’s hottest sights are to be seen outside the Paris Fashion Week Men’s spring/summer shows, where the city’s top clothes-wearers strut their stuff for an admiring audience of street-style paps. Here’s a few sartorial souvenirs from a long weekend in the City of Lit.

We’ve been on board with the '90s pastels revival recently, but these dudes are on another level. Long-sleeved graphic T-shirts in bright powder blue and canary yellow, cross-bodies for days, a spare set of pink and blue tops just in case… Boys! Leave some retro leisurewear vibes for the rest of us, yeah?

Guy here is scratching his head like he’s forgotten something. But he’s pulling together smart shoes, athletic socks, retro adidas trackie bottoms and a band T-shirt like an absolute boss, so it can’t be anything off his "all the SS17 trends" list that’s he left behind. Probably his house keys.

The basic trend-clash templates are pretty easy to spot at any Fashion Week you happen to go to — hip-hop-meets-punk, sports-meets-smart, tech-meets-heritage — but occasionally, a maverick comes along with a whole new way of mashing together eras and vibes. Mr. Western-rockabilly-street-luxe-from-the-future here, for instance.

Military-utilitarian boiler suits have become a staple among the steezy set over the past few seasons. But what happens when the atmospheric conditions don’t really suit being zipped up in a canvas one-piece? Why not do as this dude does, and unzip to the waist, un-sleeve your arms, and let the top half dangle down to create a strong, '90s "ultra-baggy khaki cargoes" effect? Throw on an airy, oversized smart shirt up top and you're ready to do overalls all summer long.

The alternative option is to fold your winter all-in-one into one of those vacuum-pack bags, slide it under your bed, and open up its spot on your clothes rail for a short-sleeved summer version. As demonstrated by the NBA’s fashionista superstar Russell Westbrook (a man who never has to worry about wardrobe space), pair with Vans Old Skools and a bandana for "hitting the beach (just as soon as I’ve fixed the car)" vibes.
