Sad news kicked off 2014: James Avery (Uncle Phil to you and I) passed away at the age of 68. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star is still a staple on our TVs—so needless to say, we were all bummed. So, it's only right to honor the man, the myth, the legend…the real King of Bel-Air. Here's why we want to hop on a plane from West Philly and end up chillin' out, maxin', and relaxin' all cool with the Banks family.

1. Uncle Phil was a stand-up dude. He took in his nephew Will (Will Smith), and supported the rest of his family. How'd he provide? He was a successful lawyer at a firm called Firth, Wynn and Meyer. Fun fact: it's a play on Earth, Wind and Fire.

 2. Phil's son Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro) and his absurd dance moves are GIF gold. But people forget that Carlton got his dancing prowess from Phil. Randomly enough, the infamous moves were a parody of Courteney Cox’s breakout role as a Jersey girl in Bruce Springsteen’s "Dancing in the Dark" music video. Seriously.

 3. This week, Smith spoke out about Avery's passing. "Some of my greatest lessons in acting, living and being a respectable human being came through James Avery. Every young man needs an Uncle Phil." We agree. Check out the video below of Uncle Phil's wildest and most hilarious moments. RIP, big guy.
