You're from the south — tell us how that's had an influence on your style...
I grew up loving the south, but I always wanted to experience more. I felt like it was important for me to push myself outside of my comfort zone. I try to do the same things with my music. My style is all about knowing and respecting my roots, but what makes style fun for me is finding something unusual or quirky and incorporating it into an outfit.
What do you pack when there's a time and space limit?
I always pack a leather jacket, two button-down shirts, two T-shirts, a pair of black jeans, a few pairs of black socks and a few quirky ones, a pair of running shoes, running shorts, and a couple pairs of shoes I can dress up or down.
Who are your current style inspirations?
Karl Lagerfeld, A$AP Rocky, Theophilus London, Phillip Lim, Martin Margiela and almost any 80s sci-fi/fantasy movie.
As a songwriter and emerging popular artist, who else are you gunning for to hit the big time?
She's already killing it, but Charli XCX and I have been friends for a pretty long time. It's always awesome seeing your friends crush it, she's a superstar.
What's your guilty pleasure top 40 music?
Anything Nicki Minaj.
What's a staple piece that every man should have in his wardrobe?
A no-frills black leather jacket. Find one that suits your personality.
Tell us about your grooming habits — how do they change when you're on the road?
I like shaving twice a day to keep my skin feeling clean and smooth, buuuuuuuut if we're out late the night after a gig, I definitely cut back to one the next day.
With all the anticipation around Rihanna's R8 dropping, what can you tell us about working with her — and do you see another collab in your future?
It's all about timing. We're both crazy busy at the moment, but if the timing feels right, I'm game. Personally, I'm focused on touring my album, but who knows? It'd be dope to link up, it's been a minute!
