If you've returned from vacation with a tan to rival Hollywood’s most buffed and bronzed, these five tips will help maintain it and keep your glow going into fall.
1. Take a cold shower
Unless you're a pro athlete, you're probably not in the habit of throwing yourself in an ice bath or shower. But actually, if you aspire to a long-term tan, then turning down the heat and going for cool water over hot will help prevent peeling, as it doesn't dehydrate your skin in the same aggressive way.
Lock in that post-vacation tan with daily liberal applications of moisturizer, which, again, helps prevent your skin from dehydrating and peeling. There are plenty of quality moisturizing after-sun lotions on the market, but source yourself one with aloe vera in it for maximum cooling and soothing effects to help prolong that Adonis-like glow. Integrate its application into your morning routine and pour it on after a shower.
3. Wear white
Contrasting your tan against a fresh white T-shirt creates the illusion of deeper, darker skin. Weeks after your trip has finished, pulling on an ice-white crew-neck will make it look as though you've just stepped off the sand.
This might seem counterintuitive, but by using a light exfoliator once a week can actually boost your tan, because it removes the dead cells on the surface of your skin. Obviously you don't want to use anything too abrasive — just something coarse enough to reveal the brighter skin underneath.
5. Fake it
Of course the safest, least-damaging route to gaining (and maintaining) a killer tan is to fake it. It's time to nail the final frontier in male grooming and follow our how to apply self tan video.
