STYLING

HOW ASOSERS DO POLKA DOTS

By Maybelle Morgan, February 1, 2018

Yep, '80s nostalgia has seen the return of many a disco-retro trend to our wardrobes — but none as cute as the polka dot. From loud kitschy circles to teensy oh-so-pretty spots, the print takeover shows no signs of slowing and the staff here at ASOS are wearing it round the clock. See how they’re styling it their way…

Double trouble

When in doubt, go all out, right? In this case, two polka-dot prints are better than one, and they're taking over your midi tea dress (bye, florals). Take it from a fancy-to-everyday thing by mashing up influences and pairing a black baker boy cap with street-chic chunky kicks.

Sweater weather

While the prettiness of the polka dot is definitely summoning spring vibes, it doesn’t mean you can’t make it cold-weather appropriate. Rachel wears her spots in a '60s-style tunnel-neck sweat, then cranks up the fun by clashing it with leopard-print denim. Plain white Converse tone down the look and keep all eyes on the sparring partners/patterns.

Lady lure

This top is a solid nod to all things glorious and retro, with '80s puff sleeves and chunky black and white spots. Bella keeps the outfit from veering on OTT by adding simple Scandi-esque wide-leg cropped pants, while pointy white western kicks stop the silhouette from getting too exaggerated. A beret to finish off? Très jolie.

Retro run

If you’re looking for an entry-level intro to the trend without having to commit to a head-to-toe get-up, this one's for you. Your pretty day top (all tie-front and ruffle detailing) gets an update in spots Minnie Mouse would be proud of. Make it less Disney and more street-style cool by adding light-washed skater jeans and snakeskin-print Converse.

Twice as nice

Up the fun factor of your polka dots two-fold with a denim co-ord in bold stare-stealing monochrome. The cropped jacket and mom jeans tapering add those early-'90s Saved By The Bell feels, but make sure you tone down the kitsch with grungy Dr. Martens. So good.
