5 JAMES FRANCO 'FITS

Aside from mastering the art of simple style, Franco has also shown he can compete with the sartorial big hitters by nailing the latest trends with unrivaled nonchalance. At the end of last summer, Franco rocked an on-trend band tee and matched the Black Sabbath merch with skinny jeans and pleasantly worn-in white Nikes. A cap with a tricolor cockerel and some classic Wayfarers completed the actor’s SS16 get-up.
We’re starting to see a pattern here — indications of a Franco signature style emerging. This time, however, when styling another graphic band tee, Franco tucked it behind a different statement piece, making it a cool component rather than a stylish solo effort. The main event was a shiny, silky bomber with collegiate lettering, worn with a matching beanie, black skinny jeans and brown boots — with bonus paint splatters — kept things minimal elsewhere.
Now this is the confident stride of man well aware he’s sporting an outfit of next-level winter readiness. Here, Franco’s duvet-like padded jacket alone would have added enough substance to make his cold-weather gear stylish, but he didn’t stop there. Under, he layered a silky bomber — zipping it up to contain the warmth – and stuck to this high level of winter-appropriate duds with thick denim jeans, bulky black boots, gloves and a beanie. And there was still space for his sunnies, of course, adding a classic cool-guy touch to his wintry steez.
With his "I don’t care that the T-shirt was free, the beer was five bucks so I’ll be making the most of it, thank you very much" attitude rivaled only by Shia LaBeouf, James Franco has a knack for turning the less-sought-after into the nucleus of a stylish 'fit. This yellow vintage Coors tee, for example, isn't too sympathetic compared to your go-to neutral palette, but Franco made the freebie into a key piece by surrounding it with well-curated classics. Black skinny jeans, boots, sunnies and a NASA cap took his everyday errand-running outfit to new heights.
Dressing stylishly isn’t always about throwing on the latest trend pieces or introducing unique layering to the fold. As James Franco shows here, sometimes keeping things simple with a fail-safe color scheme can work wonders. He pairs together a simple black tee, logo cap and skinny jeans before accenting the all black with an injection of brightness via some blue, green and orange New Balance.
