HOW TO WEAR: WORK PANTS
By Lakeisha Goedluck, October 28, 2017
For years now, skinny jeans have reigned supreme. However, there’s recently been a shift towards loose-fitting silhouettes. As the skate scene has started to take over in a sartorial sense, wide-leg pants and work pants from cult brands like Dickies have become the gear of choice for the stylish set. So, to see how to style the latter, here’s some sartorial inspiration.
When it comes to compiling casual get-ups, carpenter pants in a nicely fall rust hue are a solid go-to. For a chilled daywear option with a retro feel, layer a rugby top over a half-zip to do something a little different with your neckline. Then tuck your tops in to fully show off your straight-leg skate-pants game.
Go dark down low, too, with a slate-gray take on the iconic Dickies work pants in a loose-fit, complete with chunky rolled cuffs. Finally, prove that you’ve got color clashing on lock and don some calf socks with yellow stripes and a pair of skate-ready Vans.
As far as pants go, work pants are one of the most versatile styles you can own — fitting into rugged, outdoorsy fits, Scandi smart/casual get-ups and steezy streetwear ensembles with ease. But sometimes, you just want to go with the tried-and-trusty skate-style route.
Opt for a staple stone-colored pair and wear them with patterned threads plus brightly-colored accessories for a strong contrast to your nicely neutral pants. A graphic-print long-sleeved top with a checkerboard-print shirt supplies the Warped Tour feels, while houndstooth slip-on shoes will echo your top half. Select a pink fanny pack to give your outfit a contemporary twist and a fresh fluorescent finish.
