LOOKS FROM SCARY MOVIES
By Lakeisha Goedluck, October 30, 2017
Featuring sadistic twins, a hotel hallway flooded with blood and Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson as a disturbed husband on a murderous rampage, The Shining has more than its fair share of memorable imagery — and has been parodied, pastiched and paid tribute to endlessly since its 1980 release. But, for us, the most enduring aspect of Stanley Kubrick's classic Stephen King adaptation is its commitment to quality outdoorsy fashion.
This year, take notes from Nicholson’s character Jack Torrance and don dadcore gear fit for an unhinged axe wielder. Go for a flannel checked shirt in a washed-out color and wear a burgundy Harrington jacket à la Torrance over the top with a pair of mid-wash jeans. Opt for a pair of Vans Old Skool sneakers suitable for wading through snow… or just for casually wearing throughout fall.
Getting menswear inspiration from a young boy may sound counterintuitive, but trust us on this one. Little Damien from The Omen is one of the most sinister kids to ever appear in a horror flick — mostly because he’s the offspring of the devil. But, demonic tendencies aside, the youngster is dressed pretty slick in every version of the film.
So if you’re hoping to look devilishly good this Halloween, don a smart white shirt and a slim-fit three-piece black suit. Stay sharp and choose a traditional black tie to round off your outfit. On foot, pick a pair of black Oxford shoes and complete your Lucifer-worthy look with a corduroy flat cap. And the upside of such a gruesome get-up is that you can easily adapt it for that scariest of situations — work.
