FW18 SCANDI STREET STYLE

By Lakeisha Goedluck, February 9, 2018

Sartorially speaking, Scandinavia is known as the home of minimalism. For the FW18 Nordic catwalk shows, the street stylers in attendance took the traditional approach of opting for clean-cut silhouettes and basics in subdued colors, but stealthily mixed in some new-season elements. So, if you want to nail it like those descended from the Norse, here’s a roundup of the best dressed seen at fashion week in Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.

When it comes to print, this guy’s not hiding his aesthetic prowess, opting for an all-over camouflage boiler suit. Seen on the FW18 catwalks at the likes of Maharishi and Liam Hodges, the key to styling camo is to keep the rest of your look understated: cue, that Scandi sensibility. This fella wears a plain white tee underneath his all-in-one and layers up with a simple black coat. Notice how he nicely ties in his accessories, too — his red beanie and the colorway of his old-school Nikes correspond to the patterning on his overalls. Cold-weather dressing, covered.

Too early for transitional layers? Well, not according to this dude. Wild sartorial choices seem to be a given for this guy, as he opts for a leopard-print shirt to kick off his ensemble. To keep out the chill, he teams together two favorites for the intermediate period — a khaki bomber jacket and an embroidered denim number. For his bottom half, he chooses slick straight-leg jeans and a pair of on-trend Converse One Stars. To unite such an adventurous getup, he opts for all-black accessories — check out that mohair-knit scarf and oversized cross-body bag.

In case you weren’t aware, oversized blazers are back in a big way this season. This fella’s got the memo and styled his in the most Scandi way possible — just look at those muted shades. Channeling the '80s-power-suit aesthetic, he wears his blazer with matching wide-leg pants. He also borrows from the '90s and opts for grunge-inspired staples: a graphic-print oversized hoodie and a chain detail on his pants add some flavor to his ’fit. To round off his decade-spanning look, he picks a pair of up-to-date chunky-soled sneakers.

For FW17/18, it’s all about favoring fluorescent shades over darker hues. The menswear sphere has taken a shine to yellow in particular, which this street styler has chosen to form the foundation of her outfit. She goes for a mustard-colored hoodie and teams it with a golden-yellow denim co-ord for a tonal triumph. To stay cozy, she layers up with an all-over-borg longline coat (this is Norway, after all). To switch it up, she rocks a pair of aqua-blue kicks with corresponding socks on foot. Minimal silhouette, maximum color play.

Another street styler who’s clearly game for joining the bright-color hype is this guy. Starting off with a basic cream polo, this dude layers up with a chunky-knit sweater in vibrant orange. To counterbalance such an eye-catching block of color, he keeps the rest of his look laid-back — note how his cap, trench coat and pants all come in a heritage check print. He finishes off his with a pair of crisp white kicks, and extra props are in order for the brilliant-blue cross-body bag which nicely complements the color of his knitwear.
