MFW FW18 STREET STYLE

By Lakeisha Goedluck, March 2, 2018

With temperatures hovering around freezing, the fashionable lot who turned up to the FW18 womenswear shows in Milan used the cold weather to their advantage. From sheepskin-lined denim jackets to traditional longline overcoats, the layers exhibited were on point. Here’s a round-up of our favorite luxurious looks.

In case you missed it, it’s no longer a sartorial nightmare to wear a '90s-inspired matching denim set. In fact, utilitarian co-ords are high on the agenda for FW18, so this guy’s well ahead of the curve. To give a Scandi edge to his ensemble, he teams his mid-wash denim cuts with a neutral-colored turtleneck and a complementary overcoat in a subtle camel shade. Extra points are in order for his of-the-moment accessories — check out those chunky Balenciaga kicks and super-small shades.

To pull off '80s-style joggers in a vertical-stripe print is no easy feat, but this fella manages it thanks to his color matching abilities. To soften the effect of his bottom half, he opts for a Gucci Ghost sweater with cuff, hemline and neckline detailing which corresponds to the red patterning on his pants. He layers up with a moss-green coat and a navy scarf which again reflects the color of his sweater. To finish, he goes fully road and tucks his pants into his socks to show off his fresh white pair of Reebok Classics.

As far as outerwear is concerned, the puffer jacket has reigned supreme this FW17/18 season. This guy’s puffer encompasses two more major trends — notice that heritage check print and cozy collar lining. As his coat makes quite the statement on its own, the rest of his get-up is purposefully relaxed. He teams a staple striped tee with a navy hoodie and matching joggers, and rounds off his look with a pair of much-hyped Off-White x Nike Air Prestos.

Another proponent of the double denim aesthetic, this dude’s got transitional dressing down to a tee. Opting for spring-ready light-wash pieces, he stays warm by picking a jacket with a snug sheepskin/borg lining. Underneath, he rocks a ribbed  turtleneck sweater in one of this season’s most popular colors: sunshine yellow. Down low, he rolls up the cuffs of his slim-fit jeans to draw attention to his minimal Gucci sneakers. In-between ensemble, done.

When it comes to trends, this guy’s aced FW17/18. Starting off with a graphic-print hoodie, he layers up with a bomber jacket in a traditional camouflage print which cropped up on the FW17 runways at both Liam Hodges and Maharishi. On his bottom half, he goes for a pair of velour joggers — a fabric that was popular during the '70s that’s set to make a comeback this season. On foot, he channels grandadcore and ties his look together by going for a pair of chunky-soled shoes in a neon colorway that reflects the hues featured across his get-up.
