5 SPRING STYLES TO UPDATE FOR SUMMER

By Lakeisha Goedluck, May 26, 2018

When it comes to switching up your wardrobe to suit the outside temps, it’s easier to make the winter-to-spring transition. By now, you’ve probably let go of all your hefty layers and long-sleeved items, so how do you stay looking fresh for summer? Well, say goodbye to your failsafe prints and go-to jackets, it’s all about Hawaiian shirts, long shorts and minimal kicks for summer 2018. Take a look at these street-stylers for inspiration…

Throughout the year, a Breton-stripe T-shirt is always a good idea, but this is particularly true when spring hits. If you’ve been rocking yours with a slick pair of tailored pants and white shoes à la this guy, congrats for being so on your game in a sartorial sense.

But if you’re getting tired of the traditional pattern, now’s a great time to opt for a more summer-ready pick: the Hawaiian shirt. Whether you’re into the more flamboyant variety or prefer a dark-colored option, there’s plenty to choose from. Just style with your favorite pair of work pants and Converse sneakers.

As far as the menswear sphere is concerned, it’s still all about channeling skater style. With labels like Vans dropping retro-inspired pieces and Crooked Tongues delivering graphic-print tongue-in-cheek options, you’re officially spoiled.

When attempting the aesthetic, it’s especially important not to neglect your bottom half. Light-wash jeans have been in high demand so far this year, but as the weather gets increasingly warmer, you’re likely better off bagging a pair of skater-style long shorts instead. Go for the full ramp-ready look with an oversized tee or pair yours with a cool shirt like this fella.

Ah, the denim jacket. A wardrobe staple that has endured the decades and always serves as the ideal transitional layer. Now that wearing double denim is no longer met with horror, the stylish set have been pairing their jackets with matching jeans all season.

For cooler evenings, having a denim jacket on hand is still a smart idea — but for extra protection during the day, a white coach jacket is more of the move. Lightweight and prone to reflect heat, layer up with one to add a clean, structural element to your look.

Soccer fever is in full swing, so, accordingly, people have been reaching for their retro-flavored jerseys. Often seen styled with a chilled pair of slim-fit jeans and a nifty cross-body bag for a strong streetwear vibe, it looks like they’re set to be a staple piece of gear for summer.

However, if you’re after a more refined everyday gear to add to your summer wardrobe, why not try a revere collar shirt on for size? As already mentioned, Hawaiian-print versions of this type of shirt are receiving a lot of hype, but any variation will do to stay on trend for the latter part of SS18.

In case you weren’t aware, chunky-soled sneakers have been ubiquitous this season. From the Balenciaga Triple S silhouette to Nike re-releasing its much-coveted Air Max 97 model, the heftier the sole, the better.

If you’ve had enough of the grandadcore aesthetic and prefer a sleeker sneaker style for the summer, a pair of neutral-colored kicks should fit the bill. Go for some all-white Air Force 1s or Reebok Club Cs to finish your ’fits off on a clean, laid-back note as this guy expertly shows here.
