HOW TO WEAR: SUMMER DADCORE
By Lakeisha Goedluck, June 10, 2018
For the past year or so, dressing like your dad has been the sartorial zeitgeist. Chunky, borderline-ugly shoes, sensible half-zips and slim-fit jeans have been championed by street stylers everywhere —but now’s the time to update the look for SS18. So, if you’re down to rock your finest father-inspired gear, here’s how to nail the aesthetic ahead of Father's Day next Sunday.

In the '90s, when you probably couldn't dress yourself yet, your dad was most likely out flexing in his freshest hip-hop-flavored gear. From color-block track jackets to logo-print sweatshirts, brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike and Tommy Hilfiger were the ones to be seen in back in the day.

To channel the look, pop on a white T-shirt and then layer an oversized short-sleeved check shirt over the top. Go for a belted pair of long denim shorts on your bottom half — a silhouette that’s much sought-after this season. Then, finish off your ’fit with an era-defining Tommy Hilfiger denim bucket hat and some slate gray kicks.

Delving into the dad stereotypes here, but if your old man is always down for some golf, then you’ve probably spotted him in a knitted polo shirt not dissimilar to this one. A solid option for sunnier days, keep your look laid-back and go for a pair of shorts in the same colors as your shirt.

And if you’re feeling brave enough, pick a dad-flavored classic on foot: the sandal and sock combo. Pro tip = pick a pair of calf-high socks from your favorite sportswear brand to add a streetwear edge to your ensemble.

Circling back to your dad's retro steez, we bet he had a color-block track jacket or two in his wardrobe. For mild days or when it looks like it’s set to rain, throw one of these bad boys on over a classic striped T-shirt.

Down low, copy your father’s present-day style and wear a pair of refined belted check slacks — the contrast between the two halves of your outfit will show that you can dress with skill and flavor. Then, round off your get-up with a pair of Reebok Classics. Your dad’ll be proud, trust.
