INSPIRATION AND ADVICE

5 STREET-STYLE STANDOUTS FROM PFWM FW19

By Kasia Hastings, January 28, 2019

Paris always attracts a strong cohort of well-dressed fashion enthusiasts, but the FW19 shows gave people more reason than ever to put on their best threads and take to the City of Light. Whether they were there for Virgil Abloh’s star-studded Louis Vuitton show, Kim Jones' latest stroke of genius at Dior Homme or Hedi Slimane’s landmark Celine menswear line (the first ever), they came, they saw, they conquered — or at least these guys did. Here’s how they measured up to the looks we saw on the streets of London and Milan.

We’ve seen designers serve up fisherman chic before, but this guy is riding his own style wave with a look that we’re calling minimalist fishing boat steez. It’s a more industrial take on utilitarian dressing that’s kept crisp with some chic color choices. This urban angler limits himself to a simple palette of petrol blue, white and black to create a nice clean contrast with his beanie, turtleneck and heavy darker cuts.

On the gaudier end of the color spectrum, we have this guy. He’s clearly not about keeping a low profile and why would he be? Our man’s highlighter pink tracksuit bottoms are everything that’s great about this year’s neon trend. His sartorial excellence doesn’t stop there though, he keeps things glowing elsewhere with a bright blue shirt and white tee up top, white beanie, black cross-body and some neutral kicks on foot. As interesting color combinations go, it’s pretty impressive.

To some, this fella’s textile ode to da Vinci’s The Last Supper might look a bit like a novelty bath mat you’d find at your grandma's, but to others, it’s a cult piece of streetwear from Japanese brand, Facetasm. Either way, he’s got himself a great statement jacket with some seriously good craftmanship weaved into its high-grade fabric, so we’d hope he’d look a little happier. Special mention here for the contrast stitch on his work pants and his on-point trim. Bravo.

Sometimes there’s nothing stronger than a blank canvas, but let’s not pretend it doesn’t take all kinds of technique to wear an all-white outfit like this. This guy has curated a masterpiece of snowy sartorial strokes that deserves appreciation. First up, there’s his logo-iced bucket hat, then there’s his hoodie with contrasting black strings, simple cuffed pants and, finally, a big white furry coat for all-important texture. He adds a scoop of color up top with a pair of wrap-around shades and some more on his feet with blue fashion-forward kicks. Fin.

This level of layering is exactly the kind of expertise we’ve come to expect from the street-style aficionado. Wearing a lightweight vest on top of an overcoat is a strong and unexpected move that shows he’s operating on a higher sartorial plane than most. Those who care to join him, take note. Color is key when you’re introducing this many elements into your get-up, and our hero gets his greens in pretty much everywhere to tie this look together like a pro.
