3 WAYS TO WEAR NEUTRAL SHADES IN SS19

June 22, 2019

With neon tones, animal print and general brightness ruling the menswear spectrum this season, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the less-is-more Scandi approach to color schemes has been well and truly thrown out the door. Well, subdued hues are still very much on the agenda, and for those of you not currently into the retina-scorching shades, here are three ways to style out neutral tones that are anything but beige.

Peak pockets

Neutral shades and utility styles: it’s a match made in pocket-heavy heaven. Another of 2019’s key looks, cargo styling marched up and down the runways of Louis Vuitton, A Cold Wall* and Acne in various practical guises. If this safari-esque style is the one for you, don’t be afraid to mix up a few washed-out colors like our man above. Kick it off with a tee-and-vest combo and add some utility-style pants. The best part? With all the additional storage space there’s no need for a bag —  unless you want to go "peak utility" with a fanny pack or chest rig, of course.

Do sweat it

Looking a bit more "sunset in a beer garden" for this next look. Off-white, beige, cream — however you describe the tone — the super-wearable shade makes an ideal base for any outfit. With a matching sweat and sneakers, this look breaks up the otherwise straightforward palette with a pair of washed-gray utility shorts and a khaki cap from Nike. Complete the vibe with a simple chain necklace. Downtime outfit, done.

Get co-ordinated

Matching looks have traditionally been reserved for formal events in the form of suiting, but this year saw two-piece styles creep into our casual rotations too. And what a blessing: picking an outfit is now 100% easier, and less hassle equals more looks. All you actually need to think about are your kicks. An over-branded outfit can be tricky, but opting for a neutral tone like the above set from Carhartt WIP brings the style firmly into wearable territory. Easily dressed up or down, consider your summer party, beach-to-bar, or birthday BBQ look, well and truly nailed.
