With a voice of gold and a flair for drama, soul singer Camille Trust always makes a statement. A mainstay on the Sofar Sounds circuit, where intimate gigs are set up in unexpected venues all around the world, Camille knows how to bring her presence everywhere from a living room in Naples to a library in New York. We caught up with the budding star to chat music, fashion and holiday plans (while trying on some OTT party looks, of course).
STYLE AND CULTURE
MEET CAMILLE TRUST
By Hallie Liang, December 20, 2018
How does fashion and style play a role in your music?
"For me, fashion plays a huge role in my image as an artist. For my live shows, my band wears yellow and red berets to echo my style. Yellow and red are both extremely vibrant colors that pop on any stage and since I tend to be an energetic performer, I want the outfits to reflect that."
Craziest thing you've ever worn:
"In high school, I was the school mascot. So, wearing the Gryphon mascot costume in Florida heat while dancing on a football field is probably my craziest."
What are your favorite eras of fashion and music?
"I've always been drawn to ‘70s music and fashion, but I like to sprinkle in elements of the ‘90s into my style as well."
Tell us about your favorite gig you’ve ever played:
"It was at National Sawdust earlier this year, it was my EP release show and that day I will never forget. The energy of the crowd and the band was electric."
What’s the best part of doing shows with Sofar Sounds?
"Sofar Sounds really has an incredible thing going on, I love being able to have such an intimate connection with the audience every single time. I've been able to do Sofar Sounds shows in NYC, LA and Naples, Italy and every show has been so special. As an artist, it is really difficult to find a space to perform where the entire audience is engaged the whole time, Sofar Sounds has consistently made that happen."
How do you like to dress while performing onstage?
"I love a good monochromatic two-piece jumpsuit or anything that shines."
Tell us about your recent work. What are you most proud of about it?
"Recently I have been working on music videos which has been an insane experience. I love being able to flex a different creative muscle and make it all come together. I danced for many years so it has been amazing bringing dance back into my life and choreographing to my own music."
What are your plans for the holidays?
"I'll be going home to Florida to connect with my family and for NYE, my sister and I will be celebrating in Key West! I am trying to hold onto the warmth for as long as possible before I come back to NYC for 2019."
What can we expect from you in the coming year?
"I will be releasing my next single, Scandalous, in January 2019 followed by an epic music video! New music and a lot more shows is what to expect from Camille Trust in 2019. #trust"
